The Best Winter Activities for Kids (With Printables!)

Winter is right around the corner, which means it’s time to get ready for the cold weather and early sunsets. While the season may seem to limit what activities your kids can participate in, there are still plenty of winter activities for kids! We have plenty of ideas, both indoors and outdoors, to keep your entire family occupied for the next few months.

Baking Cookies

Everybody loves cookies, and they only taste better homemade. Helping your kids bake a batch of warm, delicious cookies is a great idea for so many reasons. Plus, guiding your kids through the process helps teach them valuable skills, such as baking, following instructions, and basic math when measuring ingredients. It’s also a great way to spend quality time with your children. Just be sure to leave leftovers for Santa!

Solving A Jigsaw Puzzle

If you’re looking to find more fun indoor winter activities for your kids, solving jigsaw puzzles is a great way to pass the time. There’s just something satisfying about finally finding the right piece to place, and the end result of your child’s effort is well worth it. With so many puzzles out there, you can pick one out that matches your child’s interests or a fun seasonal puzzle that captures the beauty of a winter wonderland. Here at Homemakers, we have an in-store collection of puzzles for you to pick up this winter season!

Building a Snowman

When thinking of winter activities for kids, building a snowman is a classic that likely comes to mind. It combines two important aspects to any activity– exercise and creativity! Assuming you have plenty of fluffy white snow to work with, your child can craft their perfect creation. Be sure to have buttons and a carrot handy so they can give their new pal a face, too!

Free Homemakers Printables

If your kids love coloring, we have a special surprise for you! Download and print out these printables at your leisure for your kids to enjoy. With designs including a living room setup and a Homemakers delivery truck, your kids can create their own Homemakers themed art!

Family Game Night

For fun indoor winter activities the whole family can enjoy, round everyone up and get ready for a game night of fun! Bring out your favorite family-friendly board games and enjoy some healthy competition or cooperation. There are so many games to choose from, both new and old, so there’s sure to be a few out there that strike your family’s fancy.

Redecorate Their Room

With the new year soon approaching, now is a great time for your child to revamp their bedroom décor. Nothing kicks off the start of a new year like a newly styled space to come home to! At Homemakers, we have an expansive array of items for your kids’ bedroom. Whether you want to go all in with an entire new bedroom furniture collection or to spruce up their space with stylish accessories, we have what you need!

Winter Sports

While the snowy weather limits some activities, it also opens up possibilities. Encourage your kids to take advantage of the numerous winter sports out there while they can! Start them off with something relatively mild like sledding. Then, pick up the pace with activities such as ice skating, skiing, and snowboarding. Just be sure your kids follow all safety precautions and start on the bunny slopes.

Hot Chocolate Decorating

It’s hard to imagine a feeling better than sipping a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day, and you can turn it into a fun winter decorating activity! Help your kids heat up a cup of water or milk, add in the hot chocolate mix, and then let it cool. From here, your kids can add whipped cream, marshmallows, sprinkles, and more to create their sweet treat. Just remember to make sure your kids always use caution near hot liquids, it’s called hot chocolate for a reason!

Arts & Crafts

Head down to your favorite arts and crafts store and pick up some supplies for your kids to enjoy. Alternatively, there’s bound to be materials to repurpose into your child’s personal canvas, such as paper plates or cardboard boxes. Whether it’s making a beautiful piece of macaroni art or finger painting to their heart’s content, letting your kids express themselves creatively offers up plenty of fun indoor winter activities to choose from.

Cozy Up with a Book

Another productive winter option is for your kids to snuggle up in a cozy reading nook and settle down with a good book. With school not in session for a lot of the winter season, it can be easy for your children to fall behind. Just 30 minutes of reading a day can make a huge difference in retaining critical skills when heading back to school.

As important as reading itself is, it’s also important to have a comfy spot to do it in! There are so many ways to create the perfect spot that your child can call their own.

With all of these winter activities for kids, your little ones are sure to find something to occupy their time. Whether it be basking in the beauty of the winter wonderland outdoors or staying inside with fun games and activities, there’s plenty to do this winter season.
