Closet cleanup

Organize your closet space and stop wasting time searching for misplaced clothing and accessories.

By Laura Eggertson

3. If you have a cedar closet, hang your winter clothes there to deter moths

Wash and dry clean clothes first so stains don't set and moths aren't attracted to the odours. Use zippered clothes bags to protect what you're storing. If you only have one closet, separate by season and put the winter clothes at the back or in clear or labelled plastic totes. Put cedar ornaments or lavender sachets in your sweater drawers to discourage moths.

4. Use all the space in your closet

Add extra shelves or racks; hooks on the backs of doors. Use double rods if the space is deep. Place the things you're not using everyday up high. If you need more space consider investing in a wardrobe.

5. Sort shoes

Get rid of the ones that hurt your feet. Refurbish others. If the heels are worn and you love them, take them to the shoemaker. Store shoes in clear or labelled boxes, or in shoe bags hung over the backs of doors.
