WHAT'S NEW

10 pretty things for fall

Pick-me-ups to keep you looking and feeling great as the weather cools.

By Janine Falcon

For your hair
1.
Ted Gibson Daily Cleanse shampoo and Daily Nourish conditioner, 295.7 mL, $33 each.
Ted Gibson is a New York-based hair stylist who works with Angelina Jolie, Claire Danes and Diane Sawyer. "Beauty is individual and timeless," said the charming Mr. Gibson during a recent chat at Holt Renfrew in Toronto. "It's not about a haircut, it's about what I can do to bring out my client's most beautiful self." Gibson's daily shampoo and conditioner are a splurge, but smell so fresh and leave my hair so shiny and clean that both items are on my personal gift wish list. Take note, family and friends!

Budget buy: TRESemmé Natural Shampoo and Conditioner with Vitamin C & E, 900 mL, $6.49 each, also contain protein keratin and are gentle enough for daily use.

For makeup multi-tasking
2.
Yves Saint Laurent Palette Esprit Couture Collector Powder for Eyes and Complexion, 8 g, $65
The most difficult thing about this fabulous palette is actually using it -- messing up the finish seems such a shame. Available at Holt Renfrew.

Budget buy: The Body Shop Shimmer Squares in Velvet Browns, 8.5 g, $22, has soft metallic shades of bronze, gold, lilac and peach for eyes, cheeks and skin; 8.5 g, $22.

For your skin
3.
Cover FX Mineral FX Pure Mineral Foundation SPF 15, 4g, $37
My friend Meg has delicate skin and a touch of rosacea. I commented recently that her skin looked radiant -- it turns out that Mineral FX is her new best friend. The product helps to make her complexion look wonderfully fresh, even-toned and natural.

Budget buy: L'Oréal Paris Bare Naturale Powdered Mineral Foundation SPF 19, 10 g, $18.95; delivers an easy smooth, nearly full-coverage finish. At drugstores.

For your eyes
4.
Lise Watier eye shadow quartet in Légende, 6 g, $32
These silky shadows allow for a variety of looks from simple to polished to dramatic to playful. Try a wash of shimmery khaki across the lid, or use an angle brush to apply the plum shade as a liner on your upper lashes -- plum makes green, blue and brown eyes pop.

Budget buy: Rimmel London Colour Rush Quads Shadow in Smokey Brun, 4g, $6.49; offers a more neutral seasonal palette with easy-to-wear shades. At drugstores.

For your lips
5.
4 Camélias de Chanel Lips in Rosés, 5 g, $59.
Lipstick is back in fashion and this pretty compact from Chanel is just the ticket to lure back a gloss-only girl like me. You too?

Budget buy: Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipcolour lipstick, 4.2 g, $8.99; promises eight hours of feather-free hydration and a soft-shine finish. At drugstores.
