6. Make homemade soup There's nothing like a steaming bowl of soup on a cold winter's day. Make some hearty homemade soup once a week this month and fill up on the wholesome goodness of fresh veggies. Visit the homemakers.com recipe section for inspiration.
7. Manage your mail Don't put it off any longer. If a few things fell by the wayside over the holidays, now's the time to get back on track. Sort through all your mail and pay off as many of those holiday bills as possible. Start a mail-management system with in- and out-boxes for bills that need to be paid and bills that have already been paid.
8. Cancel your gym membership Seriously -- if you're not going to the gym, cancel the membership! It's common knowledge that physical activity is vital to your health and well-being, but if going to the gym is not for you, don't waste your money. Think about ways to exercise that will really rev you up. Try a weekly yoga class, dance lessons or a brisk walk outdoors, but be realistic about how you want to spend your time -- and your money. You'll be much happier when you find activities that work for you.
9. Get a massage Ease the pent-up tension you felt over the holidays by relaxing with a massage. Enjoy a Swedish, aromatherapy or hot stone massage -- it'll melt the stress away and help you feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
10. Read your favourite children's book Kids' books aren't just for kids. Re-reading your favourite children's book as an adult will bring you a whole new appreciation for it. Maybe it's Anne of Green Gables or The Wind in the Willows -- whatever it is, get your hands on a copy of a beloved favourite, snuggle up with a hot drink and immerse yourself into a world that dazzles your imagination.
However you decide to get through the long, cold month of January, be sure to fill your days with things that you love.
