Volunteering isn’t just for people with oodles of spare time; there are organizations across Canada that offer volunteer positions for just about any level of commitment. Volunteer.ca, a site with lots of information for those who want to share their time and knowledge, encourages everyone to get involved in philanthropic work, including families, older adults, and new Canadians.
Specific volunteer opportunities are not posted on the site, but there's a Volunteer Resource Centre with an easy-to-use search tool that supplies a list of volunteer resources. You can find information on awards eligibility and links to specific volunteer organizations from across the country.
Established in 1977, Volunteer Canada is a national organization that runs three events annually to celebrate and appreciate Canadian volunteers. International Volunteer Day on December 5th has been officially recognized by the UN as a day to commend the world’s volunteers for their hard work. National Volunteer Week in Canada takes place every April, as well as Global Youth Service Day from April 20 to 22 this year.
