Ten Years Younger
By Steven Masley
Reversing the clock is impossible, but your body won’t know that after completing the 10-week diet and exercise plan in Ten Years Younger by Steven Masley (Random House of Canada Ltd., 2007). This age-defying reference book goes beyond fad diets that promise to take years off your appearance. It helps you make healthy lifestyle changes that promise to take 10 years off the way you look -- and feel. All this lies in a 42-day diet and exercise regimen that's followed by a motivating epilogue titled: “Sticking with It.”

You'll find a list of 16 heart-healthy foods to include in your diet, plus three different kinds of exercise (aerobic, strength training, and stretching). There's a particularly interesting chapter on detoxification where you might expect to find instructions for a strict detox diet; instead, Masley offers 21 easy toxin-busters to help your body's natural detoxifying process along. For example, keeping plants in your home helps you breathe better by eliminating airborne toxins.

The last part of the book is divided into three phases that are easy to find, marked by black tabs. Each phase consists of a 14-day meal and exercise plan as well as recipes that include more fiber with every new phase. The author cites fiber as being one of the key age-defying ingredients. Not only does it lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels, it also comes packed with antioxidant power.

As the book comes to an end, the author includes handy shopping lists for each week of the diet, so keeping track of which groceries to buy is easy. By the time your diet is done, Masley promises you'll look and feel 10 years younger.
