Your Breast Health
Mammography, breast self-examination, clinical breast exams. These are terms we've all heard time after time, yet there are still many women who may be unsure about how to protect their breast health.

With Canadian cancer statistics stating that one in nine women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime,* the Canadian Cancer Society wants to help you to be aware, be proactive and get the facts.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Make a commitment to take control of your breast health.

Be aware
Get to know your body and learn about risk factors. As a woman ages her risk of breast cancer increases.

Be proactive
Be diligent about following breast-screening guidelines. Women of all ages should perform regular breast self-examination. Learn what screening guidelines are recommended for your age group later in this booklet.

Get the facts
The Canadian Cancer Society has the information you need to help empower you to protect your breast health. Get the facts and share this information with women close to you - your mothers, aunts, sisters and girlfriends.

Take time to read this article. It will provide you with some helpful information about caring for your breasts and maintaining overall well-being. To find out more about screening, early detection and protecting your breast health, contact the Canadian Cancer Society.

*The Canadian Cancer Statistics 2003 are compiled by the Canadian Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute of Canada, Statistics Canada, Provincial/Territorial cancer registries and Health Canada.
