If you're tired of vacations that leave you feeling more exhausted after your trip than before you left home, choose a travel spot where you can take it easy.
Just a 20-minute drive south of the Palm Beach airport, and about a 45-minute drive north of Miami, Delray Beach is the perfect place to unwind, replenish your energy and explore at your own pace. Best of all, it's a comfortable distance away from the party-seeking college kids who travel to Florida's bigger cities for March Break getaways.
Where to stay Delray Beach Marriott At 10 North Ocean Boulevard, the Delray Beach Marriott offers loads of comfy, spacious rooms and a spectacular ocean view from your balcony. When you exit the five-storey property, cross the street and you're ready to walk on the sand and soak in the surf at Delray Beach.
The hotel is perfectly located within walking distance to lots of quaint shops, cafés, restaurants, banks and the Sandoway House Nature Center, a historic property where you can learn about local marine life and see sharks, a spiny lobster and turtles up close.
What to do Enjoy some beach time Take your shoes off and sink your toes in the soft, warm sand as you walk along the two-mile-long coastline at Delray Beach. Unwind as you soak up the sun and lie in a two-person cabana -- it can cost you about $30 per day, but depending on how long you intend to enjoy the beach, you may find that the comfort is worth the expense. Take a dip in the clear waters and wash away your worries.
Head to the spa Pamper yourself at the nReagan Spa, located right in the Marriott hotel. Ease your aching muscles with a soothing Aromatherapy Massage (US$120 for 60 minutes) that'll leave you feeling exceptionally calm and blissful. Try a rejuvenating facial (from US$115) for glowing, gorgeous skin and indulge in a Walk the Red Carpet Pedicure (US$115) for wonderfully soft feet that'll look fabulous in your favourite sandals.
Board a trolley for a historic tour Get to know the city's character by hearing its past stories, narrated by a representative of the Delray Beach Historical Society and the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum. Travel by trolley to historic districts on the Ride and Remember tour and stop in at the Spady Museum, where you can learn about the city's early black history and culture.
Stroll along Atlantic Avenue Stretch your legs and venture into the pretty shops lining both sides of Atlantic Avenue. If all that shopping leaves you hungry, stop in at Pizza Rustica for a slice of gourmet pizza. And if the Florida sunshine gets too hot to bear, cool off with some ice cream at Ben & Jerry's next door.
