10 websites every caregiver should bookmark

Whether you're searching for health information or employment, the Internet can be a digital godsend if you're one of the nearly 2 million family caregivers in Canada (Health Canada, 2005).

By Jennifer D. Foster

Tending to someone with health challenges is a full-time job for many. And if you're like home-support worker Tammy Frye from Richmond, B.C., you'll find that the Web is an invaluable resource. "Because I work during the day, the Internet is a very useful tool for all my job-searching and banking, some communication and e-Bay shopping," she says.

Whether you're busy preparing meals, assisting with doctor visits or helping with personal hygiene, time to surf the Net can be a precious commodity. Here's a short cut to 10 helpful sites you'll want to save to your favourites menu.

1) Canadian Adult Care
www.canadianadultcare.ca

Martha Scully, founder/president of CanadianAdultCare.ca considers her self-serve national database of caregivers to be a low-cost, effective way to find qualified care. And "all contact occurs directly between families and job seekers, so each controls whom they hire or for whom they work." The cost? Job seekers: Free. Families: $59.99 for two months of unlimited access; $99.99 for six months.

2) Caregiver Network Inc. (CNI)
