Fitness fact:

Water regulates your temperature, protects vital organs, aids in digestion and helps transport nutrients and dispel waste. Maintaining a constant supply of water in your body is essential when you exercise. Here's how you can stay well hydrated.

• Drink one to two cups of fluid at least one hour before exercising.
• Drink eight ounces of fluid 20 to 30 minutes afterward.
• Drink four to eight ounces of fluid every 10 to 15 minutes as you exercise.
• Caffeine and alcohol have a diuretic effect, so compensate for this loss by drinking more water.
