Buttermilk Or Keffir Pear Smoothie

This pear smoothie is delicious. Buttermilk is low-fat (generally 1%) and nutritious, and so is keffir, a Russian-style fermented milk product (available at large grocery and health food stores).

Ingredients

• 

1 large ripe pear, peeled, cored and chopped

• 

1 cup (250 mL) buttermilk or keffir

• 

1 tbsp (15 mL) Toasted Wheat Germ (see below)

• 

2 tsp (10 mL) liquid honey

Preparation

Blend together pear, buttermilk or keffir, wheat germ and honey.

Makes 1 serving.

Toasted Wheat Germ In dry skillet, toast 1/4 cup/60 mL wheat germ over medium heat, shaking pan and stirring often, until fragrant and golden, 4 to 6 minutes; let cool. (Make-ahead: Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 month.)
